In their own words
Somchai Petcharat
Bangkok, Thailand
"I came to Sala Legal about six weeks after my father passed. I did not know where to start — the estate was not complicated but I had no idea how probate worked. Naree walked me through everything clearly and gave me a written summary the next day. I felt informed for the first time since he died."

"My husband was Thai and I was worried the process would exclude me somehow. Sala Legal handled the cross-border aspects without making me feel lost in paperwork. Pichit managed the filings and kept me updated — I did not once wonder what was happening. It took just under two months from start to finish."

"We had a disagreement among siblings about how the estate should be divided. I was nervous about using a lawyer because I did not want to make things worse. Sala Legal was firm where it needed to be but never provocative. The closing report was very thorough — it explained exactly how the matter was resolved."

"I needed to understand whether my Thai will was valid and what would happen to my Bangkok property if I died. The consultation answered all of that and more. It was not rushed — I think we spoke for nearly two hours — and the written summary that followed was useful to share with my family in Germany."

"The probate process itself took about ten weeks, which I was told is normal for Bangkok courts right now. What I appreciated most was that nobody disappeared on me during that time. I received a short update every two weeks even when there was nothing dramatic to report. Small thing, but it mattered."

"I had seen a couple of other firms before reaching Sala Legal. The difference was immediately apparent — they asked questions rather than launching into advice. That gave me confidence that they actually understood what we were dealing with before suggesting anything."

Case Studies
How some situations unfolded
Details have been generalised to protect client privacy.
Case Study 01
Estate with overseas beneficiaries — Bangkok condominium and savings accounts
Challenge
A widow with dual nationality asked us to handle the Thai estate of her late husband. Two adult children lived in Australia and could not travel to Thailand. The estate included a Bangkok condominium, two bank accounts, and a small business interest.
Approach
We managed all Bangkok court filings, coordinated with an allied Australian practitioner for the required notarised documents, and communicated by video call with the children throughout. The wife was appointed administrator without needing to attend every hearing.
Outcome
Probate completed in 11 weeks. The condominium transfer and account releases were concluded without the children needing to travel. A closing report summarised all steps for the family's records.
"Alicia handled the overseas coordination completely. I never had to explain the same thing twice." — Client, Auckland
Case Study 02
Contested sibling dispute — property in Nonthaburi
Challenge
Three adult siblings disagreed on the interpretation of a handwritten will. One sibling disputed the others' right to a family property, claiming verbal instructions from the deceased contradicted the written document.
Approach
We represented one sibling through court proceedings, presented the documentary evidence calmly, and explored mediation early to avoid unnecessary prolonged hearings. Our client was kept informed at every hearing and received plain-language summaries throughout.
Outcome
The matter resolved through mediation in the fourth month. The property was apportioned according to the will's written terms. A closing report was delivered to the client within one week of conclusion.
"It was a hard situation but I always knew what was happening. That made it manageable." — Client, Bangkok
