About Sala Legal
A practice built around the people who come to us
We were not founded to be a large firm. We were founded to be a careful one — where inheritance matters receive the time and attention they deserve.

How Sala Legal came to be
Sala Legal was established in Bangkok to address a gap that our founding lawyers noticed repeatedly during their careers at larger firms: inheritance matters were being handled efficiently, but not always gently. Families arriving during periods of grief were met with formal procedures and little room to breathe.
The name Sala — drawn from the Thai word for a shaded open pavilion, a place to rest and reflect — expresses what we wanted to offer. Not a transactional law office, but a considered space where clients could sit, ask questions, and feel that their family's situation was genuinely understood before any paperwork was touched.
Since opening our Lumphini office, we have guided families through estate matters ranging from straightforward single-asset situations to contested multi-party matters involving properties, businesses, and cross-border beneficiaries. Each matter is different, and we approach each one accordingly.
Our team holds registered membership with the Thai Bar Council and has accumulated practical experience across both Thai national estates and international cases involving foreign nationals residing in Thailand. We work in English and Thai and can help families navigate both languages and legal systems with equal care.

Confidentiality Protocol
Client information is protected under legal professional privilege. We maintain strict internal data-handling procedures and never share details without written authorisation.

Before any work begins, we set out the scope, fees, and process in a clear written agreement so that there are no surprises at any stage.
Regular Case Reviews
Our team meets weekly to review active matters, ensuring that no file sits still without reason and that clients receive timely updates without needing to chase.
Cross-Border Competence
Where estates involve foreign nationals or overseas assets, we maintain working relationships with allied practitioners in several jurisdictions to support complete resolution.
Client Communication Standard
We commit to responding to all client enquiries within one working day and providing a written summary after every substantive meeting or decision point.
Inheritance law in Thailand — what families need to know
Thai inheritance law is governed primarily by the Civil and Commercial Code, Books VI and VII. When a person dies, their estate is distributed among statutory heirs in a prescribed order — spouses, children, parents, siblings, and more distant relatives — unless a valid will directs otherwise. Where a will exists, the probate court formally appoints an administrator to carry out its terms.
For families with mixed-nationality circumstances, the picture is more layered. Thai courts apply Thai law to immovable property located in Thailand regardless of the nationality of the deceased, while moveable assets may be governed by the law of the country where the deceased was domiciled. Navigating these distinctions requires someone who understands both the statutory framework and the practical realities of court procedure in Bangkok.
At Sala Legal, our focus on inheritance matters — rather than general legal practice — means that we have seen most of the situations that arise and know how to approach them with care. We do not rush, we do not overcomplicate, and we keep our clients genuinely informed at each step. If you are in the early stages of thinking about an estate matter, a consultation is a low-pressure way to understand what lies ahead.
